In 2010, I began working with Jochen Backs of Studio Backs, a boutique design consultancy in San Francisco. Over the following decade, we collaborated on projects across a wide range of product categories, including consumer goods, medical devices, electronics, monitors, cameras, laptops, home appliances, and packaging.

During this time, I also had the opportunity to work with several divisions of Samsung over a four-year period. It was a great experience that exposed me to the complexity of designing products for a global brand across multiple teams and product categories. This particular project moved into production in 2011–2012.

The Origami Metal Monitor was inspired by the simplicity and precision of folded origami forms. Its folded-metal construction featured a black-anodized front surface with touch-sensitive controls and a clear-anodized aluminum rear housing. A cantilevered base supported the weight of the display while providing temporary keyboard storage and integrated inductive charging.

The Aragon Monitor/Tablet was designed as an all-in-one hybrid display with a multi-position base optimized for Windows 8 touchscreen use. The system could transition between desktop, wall-mounted, and flat tabletop configurations. Its rotating rear frame allowed the display to adapt to different use cases while keeping connectors accessible from the sides, regardless of the frame position.

The Series 9 Full HD 3D LED HDTV featured a highly refined production design with stamped aluminum panels, a concealed pivot mechanism, and touch-sensitive controls integrated into the rear panel behind a plastic veneer. These details helped maintain a clean, minimal appearance while integrating the necessary functionality into the overall form.
